The online home of the Gallaghers of Baltimore
I'm Sean Gallagher. I'm a technology journalist by trade; currently, I'm Technology Editor at Ziff-Davis Media's Baseline. I've been with Ziff since August of 2001. Previously, I was editorial director of Fawcette Technical Publications, in charge of magazines like JavaPro and XML Magazine, and their associated conferences. At one point, I managed "content streams" for developer web portals like Lotus Developer Network and IBM's developerWorks for FTP. I once ran a magazine called Enterprise Development (now merged with XML Magazine). And prior to that, I ran the technology and product reviews lab at InformationWeek. I've been telecommuting from my Baltimore rowhouse via the Internet since 1995, and worked as a freelance and contract editor from home from 1991-1992 in the service of various technology publications. Before that, I worked as a database programmer, LAN administrator and sysadmin to support my writing habit. And, somehow, I managed to be a Naval officer for 4 years. Somewhere in there, I've managed to squeeze some other side stuff here in Baltimore in, like occasional visits to the Marc Steiner Show on WYPR and an article every now and then for the Balitmore Sun's Plugged In section. Otherwise, I'm just your usual menace to society. And, most importantly, there's my family. If you want more specifics on my checkered past, you can find my resume' here.
